Pillow Construction

The pillowcase is very special, with Layla’s unique hexagonal stitching. The pillowcases are not the usual pure white. Gray is both high-end and stain-resistant. It’s worth mentioning that the pillowcase has copper-infused sand threads incorporated into it. The purpose is to absorb heat and maintain a neutral temperature.

The core is filled with kapok fiber and shredded memory foam. As a natural extract, kapok fiber does not contain harmful substances and is green and healthy. Plus, it’s as soft as down and wool. Those who like traditional pillows may want to try it boldly. Open-cell memory foam allows air to circulate, increasing the pillow’s breathability. If the pillow is too tall for you, you can unzip the sides to remove some of the filling. He is completely adjustable.

Test Performance

The whole test was done by me and my partner. I am a back and side sleeper. Eric and April are stomach sleepers and side sleepers respectively. After a 7-day sleep trial, we evaluate durability comfort, etc. Additionally, we observed how well the pillow recovered after being subjected to 20 pounds of weight overnight. We also wash the parts according to the instructions. The entire test is only to get the most realistic results.

Durability

The pillowcase has not deformed or worn out after being machine washed 5 times. Without lining wrap stuffing, you’re better off placing a pillowcase around it. Machine washing of loose filling (shredded memory foam) is not recommended. Wondering how to clean the core?Read our pillow cleaning guide.

Comfort And Support

The firmness is medium firm which most people prefer. Since it is adjustable, you can create your preferred thickness, firmness. The combination of kapok fiber and shredded memory foam surprised me. It’s fluffy and soft, like lying on floating clouds. At the same time, its support is also good. My head sank but didn’t sink to the bottom. The dense material dragged my cervical vertebrae. After 7 days, I had no discomfort in my shoulders and neck.

Odors

When first unpacking, there was a slight chemical smell. This is due to the memory foam contained in Layla Kapok Pilow. This phenomenon is quite normal. We just need to let it sit and ventilate, and the smell will disappear in one to two days.

Temperature Regulation

Layla claims that this pillow has strong heat absorption capabilities. After a sleep test, I feel like it maintains a neutral temperature. Presumably the memory foam traps some heat. Don’t worry yet! It won’t get hotter as you sleep. The addition of kapok fiber balances the temperature. The copper infused into the pillowcase also absorbs most of the heat.

Sleeping Style

I’m used to sleeping on my back and side. Fortunately, the Layla kapok pillow performs well for both back and side sleeping. The initial loft is a bit high when I sleep on my side. So I removed two handfuls of filling. This height is just right for me. Most buyers also agree that it’s suitable for side sleeping. Sufficient support and relatively high loft keep the shoulders and neck in the correct position.

Back sleepers, this is a good choice. My head doesn’t sink too much, nor is it lifted too high. April also likes to sleep on her side. Even though she had more fillings removed. After all, her shoulders are narrow and she doesn’t need such a high loft.

Unfortunately it is not suitable for stomach sleepers. To be honest, it is not easy for stomach sleepers to find a suitable pillow. My partner Eric thinks it’s too supportive. Thin, soft pillows are achieved after removing most of the filling. But he said: $100 is a bit pricey after so much filling is removed.

Should You Try It?

I recommend it for side sleepers and back sleepers. Stomach sleepers, you can find pillows that are more cost-effective. For those who like natural health products, Layla kapok pillow will not let you down. Kapok fiber and memory foam from nature are CertiPur-US certified. Adjustable features allow for a high degree of customization. All in all, it performs well overall.
