How Often Should You Wash Pillows?
The American Cleaning Institute says: To effectively control dust mites, it’s best to clean your pillow four times a year. If possible, you can replace your pillows once a year. If you are prone to sweating, you can wash more frequently. Pillowcases can be washed more often and just thrown into the washing machine along with the sheets and quilt covers.
How To Clean Polyester And Down Alternative Pillows?
Pillows made of these two materials are generally machine washable. Please check the pillow carefully for tears and sew them up. Down replacement pillows can last 1-2 years. Polyester fiber pillows are of poor quality and can be replaced every six months or one year.
Step 1 : We remove the pillowcase and set it aside
Step 2 : Put the pillow core in the washing machine
Step 3 : Just wash on gentle cycle with mild detergent and cold water
Step 4 : It is recommended that you perform a second rinse to help remove residual detergent inside the pillow
Step 5 : Tumble dry pillows on low heat. If the weather is nice, drying your pillows outside is also a good option
Tip: When drying pillows, add some dryer balls to prevent clumping.
How To Clean Feathers And Down Pillows?
Down and feather pillows are machine washable. Clean every quarter or every six months. Please check your pillow for damage before machine washing (washing machine full of feathers? That’s terrible).
Step 1 : Take off the pillowcase and wash it together with the sheets and quilt cover
Step 2 : Put the pillow core into the washing machine
Step 3 : Add a small amount of low-foaming laundry detergent (one or two teaspoons). Set your washing machine to the gentlest setting and wash in cold water. It is best not to use softeners as this may damage the fluffiness of the feathers
Step 4 :Rinse several times. Whether you wash it by machine or by hand, make sure the pillow no longer foams
Step 5 :Natural air drying is advisable. You can also use a dryer without hot air circulation. You can remove the pillow and fluff it while it is drying
These two types of pillows are not machine washable or put in the dryer. The agitation of the machine will damage the pillow core, so we can only partially clean it and let it air dry naturally (do not wring it out, just lay it flat for ventilation).
Step 2 : Apply the stain remover to the stained area and let it sit for 1 hour or more. If there are no stains, sprinkle baking soda on the pillow. Remove the baking soda after half an hour. They are some tips for removing odors and sterilizing bacteria
Step 3 : Gently rub the stained area with your fingers. Then wipe away the stain with a clean, damp cloth
Step 4 : Use a handheld vacuum cleaner to remove skin flakes or baking soda debris from the pillow surface
