How To Wash A Comforter In 4 Easy Steps

It’s such a joy to snuggle up in a warm, fluffy comforter. However, if the comforter is not cleaned for a long time, it will develop dust mites. Not only does this disrupt sleep, it’s also bad for our health. Some people worry: “My comforter is so big, do I have to send it to a dry cleaner for cleaning?” Fortunately, most comforters can be cleaned at home. Unless the label says otherwise, cleaning your comforter is as easy as doing your laundry.

Process

Step 1

Read the care label carefully. Some specialty materials, such as silk and wool, may be damaged when washed in the washing machine. In addition, most comforters can be machine washed and dried at home. Check the care label and remember the precautions. Like using cold water or a specific program.

Step 2

Pre-treat stains and holes. Spread the comforter to be cleaned on the bed. Check the front and back carefully for obvious stains. Apply stain remover to the stained area and use a soft-bristled brush to remove the stain. If there are holes or loose seams in the comforter, they should be repaired before cleaning.

Step 3

Put the comforter into the washing machine. Set wash cycle. Choose your washing machine’s gentle mode, cold water or warm water setting. It is best to clean the comforter separately. Leave as much space as possible for the comforter. If your washing machine is too small, it is recommended to go to a laundromat. Add two teaspoons of laundry detergent. Comforter contains too much soap and is difficult to rinse.

Step 4

Put the cleaned comforter into the dryer. Set cycle temperature to low. Adding 2 to 3 dryer balls can shorten drying time. Take the comforter out of the dryer every half hour. Shake the comforter to ensure filling is evenly distributed. When the comforter is almost dry, you can hang it to dry.
