1 Vacuum. Dust the sofa thoroughly with the help of a vacuum cleaner. Don’t miss any corner. Vacuum dust from the gaps between armrests, backrests and cushions. Turn the mat over again and thoroughly remove the stain on the bottom. Be careful not to use too much suction to avoid breaking the thread.
2 Check the care label. Read the care instructions carefully before performing any cleaning action. You will find that there are w, ws, s, and x marks on the sofa. Their meanings are as follows:
S means only use solvent cleaners, common ones include acetone, etc.;
W represents the use of water-based detergents, dish soap, washing powder, etc. all fall into this category;
WS means both of the first two are acceptable;
X means no cleaning agent is used, only vacuum cleaning.
3 Treat local stains
Different types of fabrics may require different types of cleaners. For general stains, we can also make cleaning solutions at home.
Water-based stains – If the stains on the sofa are water-based stains such as juice or red wine, we can use baking soda to clean them. Mix baking soda with a little water. Apply the baking soda paste to the stain and wait for two minutes. Then use a white microfiber cloth to wipe from the edge of the stain inward until the stain disappears.
Oily stains – If oil from food drips on the sofa, you will need to use dish soap. Mix one tablespoon of dish soap with two cups of water. Start by testing the cleaning solution on a corner of your sofa to see if it will discolor the fabric. Then dip a microfiber cloth into the cleaning solution and wipe away the stain. Wipe the stain from the outside in to avoid spreading it.
4 Use a dry towel to gently press the stained area to absorb moisture. After you’ve thoroughly cleaned your sofa, just wait for it to dry naturally. Use an electric fan to speed up the drying process.
