You probably have one or several beautiful throw pillows on your sofa, bed, and other furniture. Their different textures and appearances add interest to the space. While throw pillows are vivid decorations, keeping them spotless can be tricky. After all, throw pillows are versatile. Sometimes it is even used as a soft resting place for pets. How to machine wash throw pillows?

1 Remove the pillowcase and read the care label. Before any cleaning action, we should read the care label carefully. This step is to find out if the pillow has special cleaning instructions. If your throw pillow is dry-clean only, don’t throw it in the washing machine.

2.Treat stains. If you notice obvious stains on your pillowcase, you can use a natural stain remover to remove it. Apply the stain remover to the stain and wait for 15 minutes. The stain can be gently rubbed with your fingers. Avoid using any brushes, which can damage the fabric.

3 Put it in the washing machine. For machine washable pillowcases, wash it as you normally would. Wash it gently using cold water and mild detergent.

4 Let the pillowcase dry naturally. The reason why using a dryer is not recommended is that excessive heat can cause pillowcases to warp.

5 Place the pillow insert in the dryer. Select low temperature setting. Adding a wool ball or two will help restore fluffiness to the pillow. Replace the dried pillow core with a clean pillowcase and you will get a brand new pillow.

How to hand wash throw pillows?

For pillows made of silk and wool and decorated with small beads or sequins, hand washing is a more appropriate choice. Of course, the most important thing is to follow the care label on your pillow.

1 Use a vacuum hose to remove dust, hair and other solid matter on the surface of the pillow.

2 Pretreat stains. Use a natural stain remover to remove visible stains.

3 Prepare a clean sink or bucket. Inject neutral temperature water. Add appropriate amount of laundry detergent to the water and stir.

4 Soak the pillow in water. Stir the pillow gently to ensure the laundry detergent penetrates deep into the dirt. Wait five minutes and then take out the pillow.

5 Rinse the pillow with clean water until the foam completely disappears. Place a clean pillow between two towels and press gently to remove moisture.

6 Place the pillow on a clothes drying rack to dry naturally.

How often should I clean my throw pillows?

How often you clean your pillow depends on how often you use it. If you frequently use throw pillows on your sofa or have children and pets at home, it’s a good idea to clean them once a month. For pillows that are merely decorative, it’s okay to clean them once a quarter. It is important to note that if a spill occurs, clean it immediately.
